The Computational Psychopathology Research Group is a collaborative research network between University of Oxford, the University of Limerick in Ireland and King's College London.

We study attention, learning and behaviour in healthy people and vulnerable groups, in order to better understand risk and aetiology, a
nd inform prevention and intervention.

We adapt and develop
the generation of causal models to understand the factors that influence learning. We use this work to understand human empowerment, self-determination and autonomy and study the factors that influence individual perception of control.

AIMS

  1. To study attention, learning and behaviour in healthy people and vulnerable groups, in order to better understand risk and aetiology, and inform prevention and intervention;
  2. To develop human models of causal empowerment, self determination and autonomy;
  3. To study how learning shapes the brain leading to inactive and powerless people;
  4. To work with the public and private sector to advance these goals.

Rachel Msetfi

Professor at Limerick University, Rachel's work focuses on understanding how people learn to predict and control events which occur in their lives.

Nicola Byrom

Lecturer at Kings College London, Nicola is interested in individual differences in learning.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

Neurbio is a Oxford spin-off company led by Baroness S. Greenfield. The lab is supporting a collaboration along with Professor R. J. McDonald on the development of a novel model of Alzheimer’s and a possible cure

STUDENTS & RESEARCHERS

There are a number of Postdocs, PhD, MSc and Undergraduate students within the Computational Psychopathology Research Group
Picture

Santiago Castiello de Obeso

Santiago is interested in how Schizophrenia and schizotypy relate to associative learning.

Picture

Riddhi J. Pitliya

Riddhi examines individual differences in casual learning, attention and decision-making along the depression and anxiety spectrum, and associated neural signals and computational models.

COLLABORATORS

Picture

Andy Baker

Professor Baker studies mechanisms by which humans estimate co-variance between events and make causality judgements.
Picture

Anna Marmodoro

Dr. Marmodoro specialises in contemporary metaphysics and ancient, medieval and late antiquity philosophy. She has a strong interest in the philosophy of the mind and the philosophy of perception.

Stelios Kiosses

Stelios is a Psychotherapist and the clinical lead for Dementech Neurosciences Clinical Academic Centre and a visiting senior research associate at Kings College London. He is also the TV Presenter for Channel 4s The Hoarder Next Door.
Picture

Dyedra Morrissey

Dr. Morrissey is an academic and consultant specialising in Time Management and the Psychology of Time Perception, focusing on the so called "Planning Fallacy". She completed her interdisciplinary DPhil at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Professor Murphy and Dr. Eamonn Molloy from the Saïd Business School.
Picture

Georgina Asbitt

Dr. Asbitt completed her DPhil. in Experimental Psychology at Oxford University, under the supervision of Professor Murphy. Her research focused on the assessment of impulsivity in individuals with psychopathy. Georgina is currently studying for a Clinical Doctorate at UCL.

Rob McDonald

Dr. McDonald studies the interaction between memory and learning systems and the role of memory system dysfunction in the aetiology of psychiatric disorder.
Picture

Pepijn Van de Ven

Dr. Van de Ven is interested in wireless sensors for biomedical and ambient assisted living applications with a particular focus on falls and activity monitoring and smart user interfaces for wireless body area sensor networks.
Picture

Stephen Gallagher

Dr Gallagher is a health psychologist with a research interest in the impact of stress on health and wellbeing.
Picture

Prosper Azaglo

My research is about using Machine Learning Models for Unobtrusive monitoring and Prediction of Stress Using Perceived Control Measurements. It involves using the help of artificial intelligence to map out the relationship between Perceived Control and stress levels or mental health status experienced in individuals under study.

Rahmi Saylik

Rahmi's research examines personality related differences in associative learning with emotional stimuli and stress induction.

ALUMNI

Noemi Dreksler

Noemi is interested in multi-sensory perception and cross-modal correspondences.

Picture

Andres Ojeda Laguna

Andres studies decision making and is interested in the decisions made when information about rewards is delayed.
Picture

Michael Ben Yehuda

Michael's research focusses on investigating the effects of metacognition of action on the way we process information, learn, and make decisions.
Picture

Carys Dally

Cary's research project is looking at the prevalence of body dysmorphia in women seeking genital cosmetic surgery.
Picture

Nancy Tucker

Nancy's research project looks at levels of body dysmorphia in women seeking genital cosmetic surgery.

Sonja Stiebahl

Sonja is working on a project on paradoxical choices in relationship to associative learning.
Picture

Elisa Militaru

Elisa completed an Experimental Psychology Society funded studentship using eye tracking to assess fear conditioning.
Picture

Alexander Temple McCune

Alex's research examined psychopathy related differences in the formation of associative bonds with multidimensional stimuli. It's with great sadness that we acknowledge his passing away; he is greatly missed.
